The Buckeye Institute is an independent research and educational institution whose mission is to advance free-market public policy in the states. It is located in Columbus, Ohio, and strives daily to promote public policy solutions that encourage, equip, and enable American citizens with ideas and research based on the principles of individual liberty, economic freedom, personal responsibility, and limited government.

The Buckeye Institute is a nonprofit policy organization full of ambitious and high-performing professionals who are always raising the bar. In 2012, there were two individuals on the team; today, there are ten full-time individuals and a half dozen part-time employees and interns. Buckeye is expanding and growing and ready to reach its potential with a new communications and marketing effort.
Buckeye’s office is located directly across the street (within 50 steps) of Ohio’s Capitol building. It is making things happen, growing quickly, and hiring exceptionally talented and hardworking people.
Job Description
The new Vice President of Communications will play a unique role in the continued growth and momentum of The Buckeye Institute. This individual will be responsible for:
- Strategizing, creating, and executing all communication for the organization, including marketing, running issue campaigns, social media, electronic ads, paid and earned media, emails to supporters and press, etc.
- Contributing from day one and an ability to work in an independent manner. Mentoring and coaching will be provided as needed in weekly meetings with the Chief External Affairs Officer.
- Overseeing multiple contractors on several projects and working with any outsourced projects.
- Updating all issue stakeholders, supporters, and affiliates of The Buckeye Institute (especially donors, legislators, and press) with relevant and timely information.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is required.
A background in writing, marketing, and communications is strongly preferred alongside a professional interest and commitment to free-market public policy ideas.
Candidates are expected to possess the below professional virtues:
- An ability to work independently and be self-motivated to succeed.
- A massive amount of creativity, ambition, intelligence, and drive is a non-negotiable.
- Existing connections to Ohio are slightly preferred, but not required.
- Candidates must be personally committed to the mission of The Buckeye Institute and value the positive impact free-market policy has in the states on individuals, families, and businesses.
