Director of Operations search for home services
We recruit operations leaders who build the playbooks that let a multi-location home services or restoration company grow without quality slipping.
The role
The leader who builds the operation your growth depends on
One location can run on the owner's instincts. Five can't. Somewhere along the way you need someone who writes the playbook, trains managers to use it and holds every location to the same standard.
In PE-backed platforms the job usually starts with integration: bringing acquired companies onto one way of working and keeping the people who made them worth buying.
What we look for
What a strong Director of Operations looks like
We test for four things, in interviews and in references from the managers they've led.
- They build systems from the ground up, test them in the field and fix what doesn't work.
- They know the field firsthand: they've walked jobs and ridden along with techs.
- They lead through general and regional managers and back them in front of their teams.
- They balance consistency across the platform with room for each location to run its market.
Which seat?
Director of Operations, GM, or Integrator?
The three get confused, and hiring the wrong one is expensive. In companies on EOS, the Director of Operations often overlaps with the Integrator. We work out which seat you're hiring for in the Bullseye Meeting, before we go to market.
- General manager: one location or market, full P&L
- Director of Operations: the playbook and standard across every location
- Integrator: runs the business day to day alongside the Visionary
How it works
How the search runs
The Bullseye Meeting
We get your leadership team, and your PE partners where there are any, agreed on the scope, the reporting lines and the integration priorities.
Mapped search
We go straight to operations leaders who've built multi-location systems in home services and adjacent industries, most of whom aren't looking.
Mutual-fit assessment
We assess systems-building, multi-location experience and how they develop managers, and we check fit with your culture.
Onboard & follow through
We advise on the offer, coordinate with PE partners on equity and bonus where needed, and stay in touch through the first 90 days.
Questions
Director of Operations search: common questions
Yes. We work with PE operating and talent partners on leadership searches across portfolio companies, including confidential searches and several searches running at once.
Typically one to three weeks to calibrate, candidate recommendations from around week four to week eight, and an offer to your top candidate between weeks eight and twelve for a leadership role or twelve and sixteen for an executive role. Searches finish faster when you're ready to move as soon as the right person surfaces.
You pay a deposit to launch the search, nothing more until you hire, a payment at hire, and a final payment thirty days after your new leader starts. Fees depend on the role, and we quote them plainly in the first conversation.
Every FireSeeds search carries a guarantee. If the placement doesn't work out within the agreed period, we re-run the search. The specifics are set out in the engagement letter before we start.
